Research

My research and practice investigate the intersection of institutional sustainability and radical adaptation within the American Regional Theatre movement. Specifically, I am focused on the 'Scholar-Artist' as a catalyst for institutional evolution—leveraging dramaturgical rigor to dismantle the gatekeeping traditionally associated with classical texts. My work with The Shakesqueer Project at Rubber City Theatre serves as a living laboratory for this inquiry; by utilizing queer theory and gender-expansive casting to deconstruct Shakespeare’s canon, we move beyond mere representation into a 'radical re-authoring' that demands a contemporary urgency from inherited texts.

Looking toward the future of the regional landscape, my work interrogates the 'Town-Gown' synergy between professional SPT/LOA houses and academic institutions. I am interested in developing new production models that prioritize fiscal agility, community-centric dramaturgy, and the preservation of the regional theater's role as a civic 'Third Place.' By bridging the gap between historical 'Original Practices' and 21st-century social imperatives, I aim to redefine the regional stage as a site of constant, inclusive, and necessary reinvention.
